Program Impacts
This project provides educational opportunities for African Americans to increase understanding about the importance of creating safer home environments, as well as reduce the number of postnatal conditions, in particular Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). It involves up to 60 African American expectant mothers/fathers and up to 2 of their trusted family members/friends who will provide direct care for infants. Activities will include a “Safe Sleep” education session, a support group session on maintaining proper nutrition, and a support group session on baby safety. Sessions also feature speakers highlighting the importance of reading and interacting with infants.
